A young Iraqi reporter was shot dead in Kirkuk, reports the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Dyar Abas Ahmed, a correspondent with the independent online news site
Eye Iraq, was walking in a street in the center of Kirkuk with a friend
on October 10 when he was shot six times in the head and chest by
unidentified gunmen, CPJ reports. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to CPJ, at least 135 other journalists have been killed
in Iraq in relation to their work since the U.S. invasion of March
2003. Four of them were killed in Kirkuk.
